1. Overview
At SmokeShift, we believe you should have full control over your personal data. This page explains how to:
- Export your data - Download all your personal information
- Delete your account - Permanently remove your account and all associated data
- Exercise your GDPR rights - Understand and use your data protection rights
2. Export Your Data (In-App)
You can export all your personal data directly from the SmokeShift app:
- Open the SmokeShift app
- Go to Settings (gear icon)
- Scroll down to "Privacy & Data"
- Tap "Export My Data"
- Choose your export format (JSON or readable text)
- Your data will be prepared and downloaded
The export includes: Profile information, smoking history, journal entries, achievements, and app settings.
3. Delete Your Account (In-App)
To permanently delete your account and all associated data:
- Open the SmokeShift app
- Go to Settings (gear icon)
- Scroll down to "Privacy & Data"
- Tap "Delete My Account"
- Confirm by entering your password or using biometric authentication
- Tap "Delete Permanently"
Warning: This action is irreversible. All your data, including progress, journal entries, and community posts will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
4. Request via Email
If you cannot access the app or prefer to request data export or deletion via email, contact us at:

Please include:
- Subject line: "Data Export Request" or "Account Deletion Request"
- The email address associated with your account
- Your username (if known)
We will process your request within 30 days as required by GDPR.
5. Your GDPR Rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the following rights:
- Right to Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
- Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
- Right to Portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Right to Restrict Processing: Limit how we use your data
- Right to Object: Object to certain types of data processing
- Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time
6. What Data is Deleted?
When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:
- Account credentials (email, password hash)
- Profile information (name, avatar, preferences)
- Smoking history and progress data
- Journal entries and personal notes
- Achievements and milestones
- Community posts and comments
- App settings and preferences
- Push notification tokens
Note: Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained for statistical purposes.
7. Data Retention Period
After you request account deletion:
- Your account is immediately deactivated
- Data deletion begins within 24 hours
- Complete deletion is guaranteed within 30 days
- Backup systems are purged within 90 days
